LTH x Sonic Futures

We’ve teamed up with Sonic Futures to present a pair of industry opportunities for artists as part of Last Train Home Festival

BBC Music Introducing Listening Panel

Friday September 4th / 6:30pm - 8pm / The Forum Music Centre, Darlington

Sonic Futures is bringing together BBC Introducing, Spark Sunderland and CVFM for an informal listening panel exploring how emerging artists can engage with local radio and BBC Introducing.

Led by Shakk from BBC Introducing in the North East, the panel will feature Jenny Dean from Spark Sunderland’s The New Music Show and Baker Lillivick from CVFM, giving artists the chance to hear directly from the people behind local radio and new music programming.

The event is aimed at emerging and developing artists, musicians and music professionals across the Tees Valley and wider North East who want to better understand how radio can support their career.

Whether you’re releasing your first track or already building a following, you don’t need previous radio experience or industry connections to attend.

Come along, ask questions and find out how to get your music heard.

Last Train Home Lyric Lab

Saturday September 5th / 10am - 1pm / The Forum Music Centre, Darlington

Presenting a three-hour hands-on lyric writing workshop led by songwriter and lyricist Jodie Nicholson.

Drawing on her experience as both a songwriter and performer, as well as writing for other musicians and producers, Jodie will share practical tools and techniques to help you develop ideas, strengthen your lyrics and find your own voice as a writer.

This is a workshop built around writing and experimentation, so expect to get involved rather than simply sit and listen.

The session will cover:

  • Developing initial ideas into lyrics

  • Finding and refining your lyrical voice

  • Writing lyrics that connect with an audience

  • Working with melody, rhythm and structure

  • Writing collaboratively and for other artists

  • Turning early ideas into developed lyrical concepts

You’ll have the opportunity to put the techniques into practice throughout the session, developing your own ideas and experimenting with different approaches to lyric writing.

This workshop is for emerging and developing artists, songwriters, musicians and producers across the Tees Valley.

Whether you’re looking to improve your lyrics, find new ways into a song or become more confident writing with others, you’ll leave with practical techniques you can take straight back into your own creative practice.

No formal songwriting experience is required, just bring your ideas and be ready to write.
